Manchester United have reportedly cooled their interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

For the past 12 months, United have tracked the England international as he continues to dazzle in Germany and a move seemed likely to happen last summer.

Jadon Sancho seemed destined to move to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund

However, with the Red Devils failing to meet both transfer deadlines set by Dortmund and also the club’s price valuation, a move never materialised.

Last season, Sancho hit 17 goals and recorded 18 assists in all competitions, but the transfer speculation appeared to affect the 20-year-old. In fact, he is only just starting to find his best form and will be hoping to add to his five goals and eight assists this term.

According to The Athletic, although there is still interest from Manchester in the wonderkid, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the United hierarchy are less likely to make a move this time around.

Although Sancho is a year closer to the end of his contract (June 2023), the financial implications of COVID-19 have impacted clubs around the world, and it is understood the Premier League side have ‘paused’ their bid.

Club insiders at Old Trafford are impressed with the rise of the 19-year-old and his versatility

The continued rise of Three Lions colleague Mason Greenwood is reportedly a key factor in this decision from the club, with the 19-year-old being rewarded with a four-year deal just last week.

Greenwood’s ability to play from the right hand side or as a central striker means a move for Sancho is still a possibility as the club search for a long-term successor to Edinson Cavani.

And the aforementioned financial restrictions mean Solskjaer is far more likely to prioritise finding a centre-back and a striker when the transfer window reopens once again in the summer.
